Connecticut Valley Mineral Club

Mineral Kits for Schools

The Connecticut Valley Mineral Club based at the Springfield Museum complex in Springfield , Massachusetts , has recently established a “ Significant Minerals” School Kit Program.

The attractive glass cased collection contains official Massachusetts State rocks, minerals and fossils from locations in Massachusetts.

All minerals are displayed with labels indicating the minerals and their source. A brochure is included explaining details about the specimens and their significance.

Kits will be donated to Elementary Schools in the Connecticut River Valley, with plans to expand the program in the future.

The Connecticut Valley Mineral Club has been an active club for over 70 years. The membership is very diverse, with approximately 100 members consisting of amateur collectors, mineralogists through professors of geology. The group promotes geology, mineralogy, the lapidary arts, paleontology and educational programs for elementary school age children. They meet monthly from September through June at the Springfield Science Museum. The club sponsors a weekend Mineral, Jewelry, and Fossil show held once a year at the end of March, presently at the Holiday Inn at the Ingleside exits off Route 91 in Holyoke, Massachusetts. This show is open to the public. A portion of the proceeds from the Show go to produce these School Kits.
