Mission

The Connecticut Valley Mineral Club was founded on March 7, 1941. Our purpose is to promote interest in minerals including their collection and preservation. We incourage our interest at all levels from traditional collecting to lapidary work. Some of our members collect and travel all over the country. Additionally, we have members who are strict micromounters, and those who fabricate jewelry.

We are all here to promote your interest. The club encourages participation in all the associated activities and is a wonderful way to meet new people. As you will see, your interest in minerals is only limited by your imagination. Mineral collecting, fossil hunting and lapidary are great family hobbies, which can be enjoyed by both young and old members.

Meetings

Club meeting are held September through June (usually skipping February due to the Tucson Mineral Show) on the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00 pm (doors open at 6:30) in the Tolman Wing of the Springfield Science Museum at the Quadrangle, Springfield, Massachusetts. There is plenty of secure, free parking. We often have a speaker and it is a great time to swap stories and specimens of interest (or just bring your latest find and brag).

Newsletter

In addition to our monthly meetings, we publish a newsletter each of our meeting months. Here you will find articles about minerals, both from a geological and historical perspective, tales of members' latest collection adventures and such.

Field Trips

Some say field trips are the best part of membership. The club sponsors trips throughout the year. Access is arranged to quarries and locations that are not generally open to the public. We travel throughout the Northeast and Canada.
