Professor John Brady, Smith College Department of Geology presents The Geological History of Chester and the Life and Times of Dr. Heman S. Lucas. This is sponsored by the Chester Historical Society. The following is from the Chester Historical Society bulletin:
Heman Lucas was the local doctor for over 40 years in the mid-to-late 1800's but his real passion was geology. He was the first to discover emery in Chester and, with the creation of the Hampden Emery Company, began the abrasives industry in Chester. Come and hear more about the geology of our area and the life and times of Dr. Heman Lucas of Chester. Refreshments will be served.

Assumption College will be hosting a Science Olympiad on March 12th. They are looking for volunteers to help with the fossils category of the Olympiad. The volunteers are needed to help with the setup of the stations from which the students will be required to identify, describe, and classify various fossil specimens. The volunteers are also needed to evaluate the students performance on the day of the tournament. Anyone Interested can contact Brian K. The four day Symposium is a meeting of people interested in mineralogy to discuss and show new studies and new minerals. Presentations take place daily by various people that are in the field of mineralogy, many research papers are presented at this time. In a nutshell it is a gathering of very knowledgeable and productive individuals connected with minerals. Some do photography and research while others give presentations on minerals they have collected. These people come from virtually all over the US and abroad. It is probably one of the most important events that take place in this country. Anyone is welcome to attend.April 23 and 24. Trotter, Franklin, NJ. The sixth annual dig at this classic closed location. Both fluorescent & pegmatite minerals have been found! This is actually a "trippple diggg" with access to the Trotter Dump and Buckwheat Dump (by the Franklin Mineral Museum) areas on April 23rd and the Sterling Hill Mining Museum area on April 24th. This is a rare chance to collect many fluorescent and non fluorescent species (360+ at last count, from the Franklin area alone).
